History of Ganesh Leni
Ganesh Leni is one of the ancient caves which is located near Sonavale village in Murbad . Sonavale village is about 30km from Murbad.
To visit Ganesh Leni from Mumbai one has to travel by train till Kalyan then from Kalyan there is a bus or Gama to reach Murbad. From Murbad, there are Gama's which will drop you at your destination i.e. Sonavale, which takes about 40 minutes to reach.people used to trek this place in monsoon.
Ganesh Leni resides Sahyadri mountain ranges which attract everyone by its natural beauty.This is a spiritual place where people mostly visit on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and Mahashivaratri. Mainly it is the attraction of people in monsoon. Because it is also famous for waterfalls and rivers.Former Revenue Minister of Maharashtra Late Mr. Shantaram Gholap had constructed a dam known as Dhasai Dam. Farmers in that area consume this water for cultivating vegetables, flowers mainly marigold and grains like rice, wheat etc.This view looks awesome from Ganesh Leni.

It is believed that Pandavas built this caves 2500 years ago. There are mentions of Pandavas hiding period in the Mahabharata when they traveled to many unexplored places and had stayed there for the particular duration. Many archeologists believe that Ganesh Leni is one of those caves Pandavas carved for their shelter purpose.Ganesh Leni is the icon which summarizes Pandavas royal culture. Pandavas carved those caves in such way that it gives filling of a real ancient house.They divided whole cave into small partitions like small rooms and Ganesha idol is situated between two rooms. A door with minimalist artwork welcomes visitors. Everything is carved on a single rock.
There is a pond made to store water It is believed that water which falls in monsoon is Ayurveda and cures many diseases.The abundant greenery of this place can change a mood and gives filling of spirituality.
So, if you are planning to visit Ganesh Leni & you are nature lover, Than do visit here after monsoon you will feel the beauty of nature & beauty of Murbad.
